It’s a given
That if my books ever become ‘popular’ they will eventually fall off that short ride that is fandom and sink into a more discreet level of existence. But, while I hope my books become loved and adored and popular for the next decade or two (or however long I seek to torture poor souls by extending the life of my series, something common these days (those authors know who they are)), I hope that when it sinks into obscurity, it will still be a beloved piece of writing to most people. Something people will give to their kids at a certain age and say; “Here, read this, it’s just something everyone has to read at one point in their life.” That’s all I really hope for. Fame? I leave that to my characters- obsess over them, not me. Money? The only number I’ll enjoy is how many sold and how many readers.
Of course, this is all conjecture. They don’t even make kids watch the old star wars movies these days, so I see a long hard battle ahead of me.
Pretty soon people won’t even be able to read.
